Life Overflowing!

Life Overflowing! The first in a series about God’s abundant generosity, this inspiring, well-written article by Bishop Larry Wohlrabe of the Northwestern Minnesota Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) testifies to God’s gift of the Word. (Upcoming months promise reflections on such things as Children, Neighbors, and the Life to Come.)

Bishop Larry, who, I’m glad to be able to say, is “my” bishop, beautifully articulates how the Word of God came to us first in Jesus Christ, and then how the Word also comes to us in spoken and written form (preaching, Christian conversation; the Bible). I particularly appreciate Bishop Larry’s urging that we recognize the Scriptures as a “living document” — not a dead letter to generations past, nor a static lawbook by which we must precisely order our dealings with one another thousands of years since its first writing. Indeed, as great a gift as the written Word of God is, we always view it through the Word-Made-Flesh, Jesus, who often reinterpreted the written Scriptures and the traditional way they’d been proclaimed orally in entirely new ways!

If Christian faith is of interest to you, and if you enjoy good writing, take time to read Bishop Larry’s article. You’ll be inspired!
